Bloggers' Quilt Festival!

It's time once again for the Bloggers' Quilt Festival hosted by Amy of Amy's Creative Side! It's a really fun celebration of all things quilty. This year, I'm sharing my latest finish, my Orange/Navy Chevron quilt. Good timing, because I actually shared my Little Folks Voile Chevron during the Fall 2010 BQF. I even took this quilt to the same spot for a photo shoot.
Untitled
I love the zigzag tutorial from Crazy Mom Quilts because it's a triangle-free method of creating zigzags. If there's a triangle-free method of doing something, consider me there.

Untitled
This quilt is a high school graduation gift for my neighbor, who is going to Auburn University. The school colors are orange and navy. I was concerned I'd have trouble finding fabrics I love in that color palette...but I seriously lucked out when I found the Anchors Away line by Dear Stella. I almost overlooked the design at first because I wasn't interested in the nautical motifs, but the orange and navy ikats were perfect. From there, I quickly found the coordinating Dear Stella Dots and Orange Solid and the Lanikai Basketweave, also from Dear Stella. (Hooray, Dear Stella!)

Untitled
I love the chevron pattern for these fabrics--it's collegiate and preppy and still cool (I hope!).
  Untitled
I went for a "use it up" back and put some of my extra yardage to use.

  Untitled
It's all bound up on the Nautical Stripe, also from Anchors Away.

  Untitled
Yes, I was a bit concerned that my little helper might push this quilt into the drink, but he was able to resist the temptation!
  Untitled

I'm really happy with the way this turned out, and I'm excited to give it to our neighbor! Hop over to Amy's to check out the entries!

Love your quilt, Katie.I used the same tutorial to make a zig zag quilt, a few months ago. And I just realized that jelly rolls are great for this pattern.

Love your quilt, Katie! I tried one of these and it was nice but not as cool as yours! That binding is great :)

That quilt is absolutely beautiful! I love the colors. :) I just finished a zig-zag quilt a couple of weeks ago - I still need to photograph it. I used the triangle method. I hadn't see the method you used - the triangles weren't too bad, but I might have went with that instead!

ooh, Katie, it's fabulous! I was looking for some good navy prints a few weeks ago and I think you found the perfect ones! I'm sure your neighbor is going to love it. And that picture of Luke peeking over the top is adorable!

I love love love the striped binding. And the fabric you used makes it not too football-y too. The store in Hoover that you told me about has lot of fabric for Alabama and Auburn stuff. I think the Smocking Bird does too.

I love that! It would be great for the Halloween time of the year without being "in your face" Halloween!

Love your quilt. I have to say, when I saw the first photo my immediate thought was "If that was me that quilt would end up in the drink for sure". Glad to see that your quilt survived.
