Fabricland!

Oh, Fabricland. I want to go there.
Fabricland! Finished.
I'm so excited to show you this finish! I sewed up the quilt top several months ago, and then it languished in the dreaded UFO pile. I think I stalled out on piecing the back, but once I decided to splurge on some yardage, things moved along much more quickly. (Moral of the story: Treat Yo Self!)

And...here is a peek at that backing fabric. It's Tarika Gem from Kumari Garden. Lee sent me some of it for our bee's Christmas fat quarter swap, and I fell in love. I think the print complements the colors of the front nicely.

Fabricland is an original design by Elizabeth/Don't Call Me Betsy (you can buy a copy from her pattern shop). Elizabeth made her version with lovely Free Spirit Solids.
I enjoyed the challenge of making mine from small-scale prints from my stash (along with some matching solids).

I bound the quilt in this Running Stitch print from Lush by Patty Young. I wouldn't mind buying up all of the colors of this print and using it to bind all future quilts. Really.

Fabricland
At first, I thought this might be a gift, but the boy and his partner in crime have made it clear that Fabricland is staying put. Luke thinks it makes a fine road for his cars.

This is a big quilt (70x80)! It took me longer than expected to finish, but I enjoyed every minute.

My brother and I used the quilt my great grandmother made for our Matchbox cars. I'm glad to say it survived the cars. It is resting upstairs in my guest bedroom. I'd have to agree with your son, it does look like a great 'road' quilt.

this is such a lovely quilt Katie - all those tiny squares must have taken ages to sew together! My parents had a nice rug with sort of "paths" that we used to drive our matchbox cars on when we were young:)

This post put such a smile on my face this morning :) I love your scrappy Fabricland, it's so darned pretty, and I love how Luke has claimed it for his own. Such a sweet pic of him, he's getting so big :) The binding is perfect, too!! Love those running stitches!

Love that binding!

And you don't want to go to Fabricland, really. It's a very sad Canadian fabric chain, like Jo-ann's but drearier and way overpriced!

Katie, you know when you see a Monet painting and the colors are so satisfying it causes euphoria? Your quilts are doing that. The colors and patterns are beautiful. I realize you will make fun of me because of this statement.
