WIP Wednesday!

WIP Wednesday: "Dang, it's hot" edition. This week, WIP Wednesday is hosted by the lovely Felicity, one of my favorite people in blogland. Felicity hails from Vancouver, and I'm guessing she doesn't have 104 temps in her forecast. Jealous.

Doing good.

I've been the host for the Peace circle of do. Good Stitches for a year and a half, and I'm so proud of the quilts we've made.

If you're not familiar, do. Good Stitches is a group of online quilting bees (put together by Rachel of Stitched in Color). Each circle has a host, four quilters (the host serves as a quilter too), and five stitchers. Each month, one of the quilters chooses a design and posts instructions for her quilt. The stitchers, quilters, and host make blocks from their stashes and return them to the quilter. The quilter finishes the quilt. For more information on do. Good Stitches (including information on how to join), visit the Flickr group.

Our circle sends quilts to My Very Own Blanket, an Ohio-based organization that provides quilts to children in foster care. We have made some gorgeous quilts for this organization, and I thought a gallery was in order!
Without further ado...behold, the Power of Peace! (Sorry...I'm watching too much Power Rangers.)

Modern Medallion quilt in the works

Rachel's preview of her Modern Medallion quilt sold me on her Handstitched Class. I've completed the center Dogwood Blossom, and the next step is filling that white space with glorious embroidery (okay...I'll settle for halfway decent embroidery!). Dogwood Blossom for Handstitched Class
I began this quilt with the caveat that it would be made mostly from my stash, so I'm using up my bits of Good Folks fabric. Good Folks is definitely precious to me, so it makes sense to link up to Kelly's My Precious QAL!

Half-Moon Hexies

Half-moon Hexies
I'm sewing away on my Half-Moon Modern quilt. I'm using Lynne's Hexagon Park pattern from Moda Bake Shop. I added an extra row and column of hexagons in hopes that it will be large enough for my queen-size bed. Next up: A border, another border, and one more border. Daunting for sure.

Typewriter pouch

My friend Leah appreciates handmade things, so when her birthday came around I decided to make her a zippered pouch.
Typewriter zip After seeing all of Amber's awesome work with Melody Miller's typewriter fabric, I had to get some of my own (if you're shopping for typewriter fabric, I found all three colorways here). I wanted the pouch to have a flat bottom, so I used the Scrappy Make-Up Pouch tutorial by Noodlehead as the basis of my pattern.
Typewriter zip inside
A peek at the Tula Pink interior fabric. The exterior is Robert Kaufman's Quilter's Linen. We're not going to look too closely at my zipper ends, okay? I think I "accidentally" cropped them out of this photo. Let's just say I need practice!

WIP Wednesday!

I'm definitely experiencing a summer slow-down! I'm spending more time doing this Untitled
and this
Welcome, summer!
than sewing (and that's exactly the way it should be!). But I do have a few things on my WIP list, so here we go.
