I sure wish the folks from the new Fox TV show Lie to Me could take a crack at Ann Curry's interview with octuplets mom Nadya Suleman. I've only seen two episodes of Lie to Me, but I'm pretty sure I caught Nadya telling some whoppers (like when she said she has not had her lips done. Come on!). The thing about the interview that was most disturbing to me was Nadya's complete lack of emotion. This woman gave birth a week ago to eight babies whose lives are still very much in the balance (and she has NO means of supporting them), so that must be like postpartum times a billion. Plus she's been completely vilified by the media and the public at large. But she showed ZERO emotion. The Dateline folks had a huge box of tissues at the ready, but they went untouched. Is that normal? (To be fair, she was brought to tears once, when talking about her son with autism.) I don't know. Maybe "normal" and "Nadya Suleman" shouldn't be used in the same sentence.

I gotta tell you. For the most part I've ignored this woman and her interviews because I think she's delusional and shouldn't get ANY publicity. But I'm even more annoyed now that she's set up a Web site and is asking for money. Who didn't see this coming? Anyway. I also take offense to the fact that she said she wasn't on welfare, but when it came out that she is, her spokesperson said she just considers welfare aid for "people like her," not a handout. Or some such. This woman is crazy.
I agree, Steph. I wish I could ignore the story, but I'm obsessed. She in one sentence said that she's not taking any taxpayer money, and then admits to getting food stamps.
Do you know what I think her motivation is (besides being desperate for media attention)? I don't believe the story that she wanted to have a huge family because of the trauma of being an only child. I think she's still in love with her ex-husband (who for some insane reason agreed to be the sperm donor for all of her pregnancies), and she thinks having all of these children will bring him back to her. I should totally work for Dateline.
I agree with you Steph. I am trying to not reward her for intentional manipulation of the system. I think she should go to jail. mm
I'm sure Dateline paid her to be interviewed. I don't think that people should have kids they can't afford or take care of, unless you can pay someone else to. Period. She is totally messed up. I'm an only child—it's not a good excuse. I hear of so many people who blame their parents for how they turned out. Every parent makes mistakes. It's up to you how you choose to turn out.
Ann said several times that they did not pay her.
Katie, you might be on to something. I cannot believe this man agreed to be the sperm donor over and over. Her mother said he wanted to marry her but she wanted to "do this alone." I don't believe that.
Okay, so maybe I pay attention a little!
It is frustrating, but it isn't the babies' fault. They can't help that their mom is crazy. They still need food and shelter. Aunt T
Sick, Sick, Sick - She needs to be institutionalized. She shouldn't be getting the publicity - Katie - you may be on to something- but did she ever have a husband? Her mother said her boyfriend wanted to marry her but she refused. Even her mother and father are disgusted with her.
But - the doctor should be banned from practicing - he's at the least unethical and maybe he should have to pay ro raise those kids. She alredy had 3 with disabilities. How many of the Octuplets will be handicapped?
BUT - we can't refuse them food and shelter. She shouldn't be allowed to raise them though.
Enough of my spouting off -

...can't comment... blood pressure too high... seeking medical attention...
I can't hold my tongue any longer... let me just say... she's desperate for media attention and the media is desperate for her! If they didn't give this crazy lady all of the attention, where would she be? Nowhere. Except maybe in line at the Welfare Department.
I'm pretty sure that in the Dateline interview she said she was married when she was 21...but I could be wrong.
