My 5-year-old is obsessed with Ninjago. If you're not familiar, the clever folks at Lego have found a way to combine their Lego blocks and ninjas, to the delight of little boys everywhere. There's a Ninjago show, countless toys, and clothing, but not a Ninjago Halloween costume! The closest we could find was this (clearly a Ninjago knockoff), but it seems to be sold out everywhere. I decided against buying one for $80 on eBay and instead took matters into my own hands.
And it was so easy! And cheap! And he loves it!
We started with a white karate uniform (found here for $9.99) and a bottle of kelly green Rit dye. Followed the instructions on the dye, and presto! It took him about a half a second to get into character.
Not sure what we'll do for the headgear, but the green jersey tied around his forehead just might do the trick!
For about $15, we have a Halloween costume and a very happy ninja!

Brilliant! What a great little costume.
awesome!
I love it! And his expressions are hilarious!
His expressions say it all. He IS a Ninjago
Sweet! Thanks for sharing this. Maybe I can convince my boys to do this instead of $$$ Star Wars. :)
Love the pica woman!!!
Very fun!
love!

My son is a smallish 5-year-old. He's between a 000 and a 00. I got the 00, but it's big on him. If I was going to do it over, I'd get the smaller size.
What a great idea! Looks like your ninja is excited for Halloween - he's totally adorable (in a hardcore ninja, tough guy kinda way, of course)!
What an adorable little ninja! GREAT costume - I love low-work high-effect projects like this.
