I finished up my Modern Crosses wall hanging for my living room. It's about 29 x 38. I used Essex linen in natural and assorted brown/green/orange prints from my stash.
So, my concern..the natural linen is very close to the wall color, so I need to finish this in a way that will make it pop. I'm thinking a small orange border and brown binding? Or the reverse? No border, just brown binding? I don't have room to make it much larger than it is. I'm thinking I'll hand quilt this, but I'm open to suggestions on that too!
Please weigh in with your thoughts!

Looks great so far! I think your idea for an orange border would look great. What about a binding flange? Jaybird Quilts has a tutorial for one that looks easy. That would add a little extra color without taking up much space. Hand quilting would look fabulous!
I agree with what you suggested a small orange border, and then brown binding would look fabulous!
Darling!! I vote orange border and brown binding too! It'll be awesome!!! :)
I think it would look great with just a brown binding. In my opinion borders look odd on modern quilts as they are a more traditional component. Of course, that's just my taste -- perhaps I'm biased against borders as I'm a modern quilter and so many of the quilts I make don't have any borders.
It would be easy to test out -- just layer some orange fabric over some brown fabric so that 1/4" or so of the brown shows and then put the quilt on top with the amount of orange showing that you want. Then try it again without the orange. Taking pictures would help so that you can compare (and we can all see!)
I like the idea of the brown binding with the orange flange. I love the colors of all your fabrics together. This is going to look so fun. I've used this tutorial before for a faux piped binding. It worked perfectly:

I think the orange border with the brown binding sounds cute. Not sure what some of the other comments mean, but they might be cute too! :) I usually ask my husband who is an architect and not a quilter how I should finish some of my quilts out. Sometimes he has some good ideas! ;)
Oh my gosh. I'm sorry I posted 3 times. My computer was having issues. I don't know how to delete them... :(
OK, I'm going to go totally off the ranch - I would put an orange tab border around (like prairie points, but using rectangular shaped loops), then run a dark brown dowel through each side, and corner them with tiny copper corners from the hardware store (in the plumbing aisle). The dark brown would show through just a little between the tabs. Totally modern, and unexpected!
I like the idea of just doing an orange binding, rather than the brown, but without a border - still gives a good pop from the wall color. I think it looks super fab so far! Love that your mini is a rectangle, rather than a square :)
What about a green border and then brown binding? I wonder if the orange might end up too bright?
I would go with an orange binding :-) Its lovely!
I would go with an orange binding (no border).
I LOVE this quilt, it's wonderful!
