DIY Ninjago Halloween Costume

My 5-year-old is obsessed with Ninjago. If you're not familiar, the clever folks at Lego have found a way to combine their Lego blocks and ninjas, to the delight of little boys everywhere. There's a Ninjago show, countless toys, and clothing, but not a Ninjago Halloween costume! The closest we could find was this (clearly a Ninjago knockoff), but it seems to be sold out everywhere. I decided against buying one for $80 on eBay and instead took matters into my own hands.

And it was so easy! And cheap! And he loves it!

Let the Halloween costume experimentation begin. Wish me luck!

We started with a white karate uniform (found here for $9.99) and a bottle of kelly green Rit dye. Followed the instructions on the dye, and presto! It took him about a half a second to get into character.

Not sure what we'll do for the headgear, but the green jersey tied around his forehead just might do the trick! For about $15, we have a Halloween costume and a very happy ninja!

Sweet! Thanks for sharing this. Maybe I can convince my boys to do this instead of $$$ Star Wars. :)

I love your idea...so simple & inexpensize! one question: how did you figure out what size uniform to order on amazon? totally confused by the choices 00 & 000. thanks! : )

I agree! It's really confusing. I emailed the amazon seller and he sent me a size chart.

Size Height Weight Waist
#000 3' 5"-3' 8" 30 - 45 lbs. 18"-27"
#00 3' 9"-4' 40 - 60 lbs. 20"-29"
#0 4' 1"-4' 4" 55 - 70 lbs. 22"-32"
#1 4' 5"-4' 8" 65 - 90 lbs. 25"-36"
#2 4' 9"-5' 85 - 110 lbs. 28"-39"
#3 5' 1"-5' 4" 105 - 140 lbs. 30"-42"
#4 5' 5"-5' 8" 135 - 170 lbs. 31"-45"
#5 5' 9"-6' 165 - 200 lbs. 33"-48"
#6 6' 1"-6' 3" 190 - 220 lbs. 35"-50"
#7 6' 3"-6' 5" 210 - 260 lbs. 38"-52"
#8 6' 5"-6' 8" 225 - 290 lbs.

My son is a smallish 5-year-old. He's between a 000 and a 00. I got the 00, but it's big on him. If I was going to do it over, I'd get the smaller size.

What a great idea! Looks like your ninja is excited for Halloween - he's totally adorable (in a hardcore ninja, tough guy kinda way, of course)!
