Is it possible to write about hexies without making a hexy/sexy pun? I think not.
I admit it--I'm a hexy first-timer. September is AnneMarie's month in our Sew Beautiful bee, and she asked for improv-style blocks with hexies. I've been stalling on this because I've never made one before. I know, I know, they're really popular, but, before I got AnneMarie's nudge, I didn't feel compelled to make them myself.
Last night I finally sat down with the new Hexa Go-Go book and tried to figured it out, and my results are...okay!
Here's the block I made. So I can't say that I'm hooked. Don't get me wrong--I love the look of the little hexagons and I like the portability, but the making? Maybe not for me. Obviously, I need more practice, but it's just kind of fiddly. Am I alone here? Should I give them another try?
I will say that this is why I love participating in quilting bees--they push me out of my comfort zone and give me the incentive to try things I otherwise might not!

I approve the title of this post. I'm ashamed to say I never thought about hexy/sexy. I also approve of the fussy cut hexagons.
I really like the fussy cut hexies. Marla is a little out of the hexy world - hence the lack of sexy to her hexy knowledge. I am glad you voiced your thoughts on the hexy craze. I thought I was one of the few who weren't super sold on them. I think other people have had to try them a few times before falling in love, so maybe give it another go? And yes portability is a nice option.
happy friday!

I think your block turned out great and I especially like the apple hexi up top! I think EPP is one of those things, you either like it or don't!
Your hexies are great - go on, give them another try...they get less fiddly!
Ooh yours are great!! I just gave them a go last night and I love them but I also love anything miniature ;)
So cute, the hedgehogs are awesome!
Lol! I am at a conference for work right now, checking blogs on the sly, and you made me spew my water out my nose with your title!! Love how your mind works...were we twins, separated at birth?
Congrats on losing your hexie virginity. I am the prudent twin, no hexies for me yet. But now I want to crank that song and make some :)
Love the title! Your fussy cut hexis are super-cute and they do become addicting to most of us. Give it another try! Improving a block with them sounds kind of fiddly, but you did a great job!
Cute block. I haven't done hexies yet. A lady will visit one of my guilds and speak about English paper piecing in November. Maybe I'll try some then.
Nope, not alone. I have made exactly one thing with hexies, and it was with two pre-made hexies I got in a swap! I find them too fiddly. Not a fan of the fiddly.
I think your block is great! Personally, I'm not a huge fan of making them, either. I think they are cute on other peoples' projects but I just really have no desire to go down that road. And I feel so out of the loop, but the only time I've heard that song is on an M&Ms commercial, but I hear references to it all the time!
I'm with ya - I love the look, don't actually mind the basting, but it's the sewing them together that I really do not like....so I'll do an occasional batch for a gift for my daughter who adores them, but otherwise, not so much.
I'm totally with you. That's why I love bee's. You get to try something on a small scale and decide if it's your thing or not. (not to mention getting all the great blocks on your month!)
Your block turned out very cute and fun. Good job.
and thanks a lot, now I'm totally singing sexy and I know it.
I haven't tried hexies yet but yours look lovely!
Yesterday my 6 and 3 year olds came and asked me what "sexy" means, because I've caught them singing that song and have forbidden it - deeming it "inappropriate". I didn't know what to say....
...however, on your block my dear, I do know exactly what to say. You're right!!!! HEXY and you know it!! Great job!
Glad you got to try something new. :)
Read reviews on gold-selling sites before choosing which one you'll buy from. I have merely touched the surface highlightling these Proverbs! There is so much more applicable wisdom to "mine through" and discover within each Proverb. "Out behind the airhouse", he hollers. Once the pullback is complete though, silver prices should begin to gradually go back up, especially since the earnings season for this quarter is done. In difficult economic times people tend to collect silver and if money should disappear silver is a viable means of exchange if that situation should occur.
