My friend recently added a baby girl to her brood of boys, so I figured something girly was in order.
I made this quilt using Kate Spain's Verna.
The pattern is AmandaJean's Stacked Coins Quilt for Moda Bake Shop.
For the back I used the Verna Clover Earth fabric.
Here's a close-up of the quilting. Meg shared her excellent idea of quilting straight lines in the sashing and doing a diamond pattern in the coins.
My walking foot is bedeviled (so is my rotary cutter...what is up with my quilting tools???), so I used my regular presser foot. It's not perfect, but I'm happy with the way it turned out. Things turned out better when I quilted the straight lines first and then went back and did the diamonds. (When I did the diamonds first and then the straight lines, it led to some puckering.)
The binding is Verna Sewing Seeds in Apricot. They look like little starfish.
I love this fabric! A lot! The pattern is really fun and simple too.
Note to self: Buy a new walking foot, stat!

What a cute quilt. Perfect for a new little girl. I love that fabric too.
It's beautiful! You're getting really adventurous with your patterns. I don't think I could get past plain squares.
I am the friend, and it is fantastic! In fact, it's so beautiful that I decided as soon as I saw it that I would build the color scheme for my little one's nursery around it. So thanks, Katie--and get ready to make some matching pillows.
It's a beautiful quilt! I love the backing fabric and the quilting looks great. So nice that your friend loves it so much, too!
You're welcome, and it looks fabulous! I will say that a good walking foot makes it a lot easier--I'm impressed to bits that you managed so well with a regular foot!
Lovely quilt!
Favorite. One. Ever.
Ever!
Side note: Your kid is just as precious as he was a few weeks ago. Thanks for the visit this a.m.!
