I finished up the Advent Calendar today. (Here's a link to the tutorial on Sew, Mama, Sew by Oh! Fransson.) I'm pretty proud of it.
I practiced the free-motion quilting for a while and then took the plunge. The stitches aren't even, but it looks good from afar. I had a hard time because it was tough to see the white thread on white fabric, but I think that works in my favor too!
I really liked making and sewing on the binding. Hand sewing the binding? Not so much. I'm not looking forward to doing that on Luke's twin-size quilt when it gets back from the long-arm quilter.
Thanks for all of the gift suggestions! I found some little toys in the $1 bins at Target.
So, now I have the skills to make a quilt on my own. Guess I need to make another so I can get some more practice! See how this can be addictive?

WOWWWWW! The free-motion quilting looks amazing!! You did such a great job on this! Where are you going to hang it?
It looks fabulous! The quilting came out great! Way to go!
I am so impressed. The quilting looks really hard. And I love the binding-it looks hard, too.
My hero! It is really pretty. Also, "long-arm quilter": machine or freak of nature?
Looks great Katie, you did a fabulous job!
There are little pockets in the top corners for a strip of wood for hanging. I didn't show a picture because the back is not so pretty. I think it will go in our living room.
It can be addictive. And hand stitching a binding is meditative.
Addictive? If you say so. It is definitely worth all the hard work, in my opinion!
Absolutely lovely - what an heirloom!
Amazing! I just did a post on advent calendars yesterday, but hey don't hold a candle to yours. Great job.
I have been searching for a cute advent calendar, because I really want to make one. I LOVE yours. Thanks for the inspiration!
Wow, this looks great, and the quilting is fab too!
That is really cute. You will be using it for many years to come. I like that the numbered days are not in consecutive order so when Luke gets older he will be able to search for the next number. Makes it more exciting. Aunt M.
I've spent the better part of two days trying to come up with the appropriate words, but all I got is:
Wow.
I'm kinda in awe of you.
I think your quilting looks wonderful...love it! Nice work!
I love it!
Beautiful! I am sure you will use it for many years to come! I love your binding!
