Each member of the bee designed a quilt and made blocks for the other quilts.

I based my design off of a quilt top made by my great-great grandmother and finished by me! You can read more about her quilt here. One of my favorite things about her quilt is that it very much fits into the definition of what we consider modern today, so I thought it would be fun to remake it with the help of my bee friends.
My great-great grandmother used diamonds and sewed everything by hand. Well, ain't nobody got time for that today, so I used half-square triangles (and other fancy tools like a sewing machine!).
I added in a few reverse blocks and sewed solid strips to the top and bottom for a little added something.
I'm really happy with the way it turned out!
By the way, this book isn't just for people involved in quilting bees. There are lots of tips for participating in bees, but if that's not your thing you'll find 13 great quilt patterns.

ReplyDeleteI am not a member of a quilting bee. But I did participate in a "birthday block" once. I was actually very disappointed. The blocks (pattern + fabric) that I supplied the members were either not done, lost, or the seam allowance were so off I couldn't use them. Not sure I will try that again!!
