Song of the year?

According to my local radio station, "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis was the top song of the year. Eh. Can't we do better than that, 2008?

Check it out: Mummy Deals

Mummy Deals is a great blog. Clair shares some great ways to save money. For example, she'll tell you that a certain brand of shampoo is on sale at Walgreens and that there is a coupon in Sunday's paper. She also talks about online deals (sales on the Yankee Candle Web site, for example) and lists ways to earn money (surveys, etc.). And the deals are for anyone, not just moms. This is one to bookmark!

Good movie, take a tissue

...especially if you have an aging yellow Lab. I liked Owen Wilson. Jennifer Anniston kind of annoys me, but she was pretty good. It's cute, just hit a little close to home.Oh, and it's rated PG, but it's definitely not for little kids.

How cold is it?

I'm so glad we're in Indiana to experience the coldest weather in a decade. How cold is it? It's so cold that I left a tub of baby wipes in the car, and when I went back out to get them they were frozen solid. It's so cold that when someone opens the front door it looks like they walked out of a deep freezer. It's so cold that I wish I could drive back to Alabama and call my relatives to brag about how NOT cold it is.

Shiver. Tune in tomorrow to learn how I feel about snow.

Things that make me happy

I'd just like to send a big "thank you" to all of the folks who take time out of their busy days to merge rap songs and children's TV shows and post them on YouTube. Cause, dang, it's funny.

My current fave:

Will you see it?

I was intrigued by Will Smith's new movie, Seven Pounds. Until the reviews started coming in. The Entertainment Weekly review gives it a D and calls it an "unintentionally ludicrous drama." Ouch.

Finally! A cup we like.

I've been on a quest to find a cup for my toddler. We could never find a sippy cup that he'd drink out of. Personally, I think that the manufacturers try so hard to make a cup that doesn't spill that they're too hard to drink out of. He used a straw cup for a while, but lately he's just been taking out the straw and dumping out the drink. Anyway, I knew he was getting too old for the bottle, and I was afraid people would start making fun of him the way they do Suri Cruise. Finally I found the Nuby No-Spill Sports Sipper (about $6 for a pack of 2). It's really more like a sport bottle than a sippy cup, and Luke really likes it. Best part: It doesn't spill. Everyone is happy. I need to get more next time I'm at Target.

Christmas Karma

Last weekend was Stephanie's annual ornament swap. It's one of my favorite holiday activities, and this year didn't disappoint. You see, everyone brings an ornament, and we play Dirty Santa. It's always fun to see your normally mild-mannered friends turn cutthroat in the spirit of the season (wait, maybe that's just me). After stealing a great ornament and having it stolen from me, I set my sights on a cute little orange owl bell. Perfect. It would look so cute on my desk by my framed owl print.

So, with great braggadocio, I stole it from my friend Amanda, despite her "I just lost my job!" sob story. Spare me. I know the rules of Dirty Santa, and there is no pity clause! I was the second one to steal my dear owl, so he was going home with me. Score. Amanda warned me: "You better be careful of that owl! You have some bad Karma on your hands after stealing it from me!" Whatever. I headed home, very pleased that I was leaving with the best ornament of the bunch.

I pranced in the front door, ready to show off my spoils, when the little fellow somehow tumbled out of the box and onto the tile floor, where he broke into a million pieces. Curses.

So what did I do? Did I sit around moping and feeling sorry for myself? Well, yes, but that passed, and I decided to take matters into my own hands. I headed out to Urban Outfitters to find a replacement owl. Guess what? There was one of his kind left, and he was on sale. Heh.

Suck it, Karma.

My new owl and his friend (on sale, remember?) will be residing on my desk, year-round.

Please make it stop

For the record, I am not okay with musicians performing duets with dead people. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I don't think Elvis would approve either. I believe the phenomenon began in 1991 when Natalie Cole performed a duet with her dead dad. (We've endured 17 years of this, people!) The special effects have improved, but the creepiness remains the same.

Design Mom's 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway!

Design Mom is one of my favorite blogs, and she's hosting a 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway. It should be great. Head on over there on Friday to enter.

Wow.

(from People.com)
Michael Phelps and his new girlfriend. Dang. Somehow, not what I would've expected.

Weird weather

Yesterday we had tornado warnings.

Today's forecast? Thundersnow.

P.S. On the news this morning, they were talking about the potential snowfall and said that to be prepared we need to have 72 hours worth of food, medicine, and cash. They always mention the first two, but 72 hours worth of cash? How much would that even be? And if you're stuck in your home, what exactly would you be doing with said cash? By the way, it's currently 46 degrees, so the chance of any of the white stuff is slim at best.

Sorry, I had to get rid of that video. That guy's yelling was driving me bonkers.

To see what I'm talking about click here to go to Mighty Mendit's Web site.

Is it the dehydration, or does this look awesome? It withstands storm-force winds, people!
